It thrives in nearly every location in the U.S. and works well as a single specimen or foundation planting. This shrub is considered both a flowering shrub and an ornamental shrub. It is typically planted for both its visual interest and spring flowers. Can be trained to grow as either a shrub or small tree. Grows in an oval pyramidal shape. The Star Magnolia grows in acidic loamy well drained soils. It needs full sun to partial shade meaning it prefers a minimum of 4 hours of direct sun light each day.
